How to Apply

The ACCESS Forum is open to researchers from all research fields.

Participants can be senior researchers, early career researchers* and PhD-students.

Participants who are currently employed as a researcher/academic at one of the ACCESS universities are given priority.

*An early career researcher has been awarded their PhD within the last 8 years.

In the ACCESS Forum, a workshop is an intensive, four-day collaborative session designed to bring a Research Theme to life. Unlike traditional academic conferences defined by passive presentations, an ACCESS workshop functions as a dedicated "working laboratory."

Participants join one specific Research Theme for the entire duration of the Forum, working alongside a stable, interdisciplinary team. This immersive format ensures that by the end of the week, your group transitions from initial discussions into concrete, actionable plans—such as joint publications, grant applications, co-supervision of PhD students, shared coursework, etc.

Bridging Disciplines and Continents

Rather than gathering niche specialists, ACCESS intentionally breaks down disciplinary and geographical barriers to build strong research networks between Sweden and Chile. By bringing together diverse perspectives, participants gain fresh methods and insights to tackle pressing global sustainability challenges.

Our Impact Framework

The ACCESS Forum is an incubator for joint knowledge production. To ensure our research translates into real-world impact, we operate within a dual-layered framework:

• Focus Areas: Aligning the shared priorities and research strengths of Chile and Sweden.

• UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Grounding our Research Themes in the 17 SDGs to address global challenges.

Due to space limitations, participation in the Forum is limited. Participation is therefore not guaranteed, even if you have your own funding source.

There will be an internal selection process done by each university and the ACCESS Steering Committee, with feedback given from the PIs of the Research Themes. This selection process will take into account the applicant's motivation for participating in their selected Research Theme and their deemed relevance to the theme.

The selection process will also attempt to ensure a diversification of participants in regards to gender balance, ACCESS-universities represented and a balanced number of PhD, young and experienced researchers.

Selected participants will be informed of the decision during December 2026/January 2027.

ACCESS does not provide direct funding or travel grants. However, travel funding is available for participants through their home institutions. The amount, number of grants, and application procedures vary by university.

Some member universities require a supplementary internal application to apply for travel grants.

Note: Travel grant funding does not apply to University of Gothenburg participants, as the 2027 Forum is hosted locally in Gothenburg.

Participants are welcome to attend using their own external or research funding. However, please note that due to space limitations, participation in the Forum is limited. Therefore participation is not guaranteed even if you have your own funding source.
