At the initial meeting in Lund, August 2017, the participants in the group decided upon focusing on i) characterizing the prevalence of resistance genes in different environments, ii) study the spread of resistance genes through migratory birds and contaminated water fying from Chile-Antarctic-Africa-Sweden, and iii) novel experimental means to combat antibiotic resistant infections. The group currently consists of eight individuals from the four different universities, with a wide variety of expertise including molecular microbiology, clinical trials, bacteriophages, antibiotic resistance, and infectious diseases. The group will meet in Chile in March 2018 to participate in the Chilean national meeting of antibiotic resistance to hopefully add further experience, connections, and input to the group. During the conference we will present our objectives, listen to the Chilean presentations, as well as have individual ACCESS meetings to further defne our projects and identify key individuals we need to connect to the projects. The group has applied for funding from STINT for this initiation meeting with Rolf Lood being the main applicant, and Josef Järhult (Uppsala) being a co-applicant.
